Description

Paleo Climate Walking Tour: Exploring the Ancient Enviorments of Dinosaur Ridge

Colorado’s paleo past was vastly different from what you see before you today. Mountains and foothills dominate this part of Colorado today. Before the uplift of the Rockies, semi-arid deserts, swampy rivers and palm forests, sand dunes and rippled beaches took their turns in the land we now call Colorado.

Dive deep into the signs of these ancient landscapes on this fascinating 2-hour paleo-environment and paleo-climatology walking tour across Dinosaur Ridge.

A knowledgable guide will share how scientists analyze clues left behind in rocks, sediments, and fossils to understand the ways entire ecosystems have changed over millions of years. These clues reveal prehistoric temperatures, rainfall, and other conditions that existed long before humans started recording data, and show us how past climate changes impacted life on Earth.
