Summary

Beneath a grassy mountain valley in central Colorado lies one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils of insects and plants reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.

Come with us to explore 34-million-year-old Lake Florissant as we go on a 1-mile hike through the National Monument led by Dr. Libby Prueher and Lead Driver Alyce Olson. After lunch we’ll head to the Clare Fossil Quarry for a couple of hours of collecting fossils from this phenomenal area!
